Fun Day

May 14th, 2007

On Saturday we had a fun day at school. Unfortunately the weather was not too kind but we made the best of it. A great number of people turned up and enjoyed face painting, bouncy castle, disco, a slow bicycle race, beat the goalie and a barbecue.dscf0869.JPG

The New Term

April 18th, 2007

Everyone is back to work after the glorious weather which blessed the holidays.  There are a few ‘back to school’ haircuts to be seen.  The pace of the term will quickly build to the usual summer term frenzy.  Already the whole school has been to the Glasgow Science Centre for an educational visit.

Next week we have a Health Fair and in the next few weeks we have sports day, a ranger guided nature walk, a school fun day (a Saturday!) and the start of the activities for the P7s to smooth the transition from a school of 21 to a school of 600, other events will be filling the diary too.

Technology

March 23rd, 2007

Yesterday the P4-p7 class did some technology.  P4 & P5 worked on making a friction motor whilst P6 & P7 made some fantastic kaleidoscopes all from the ‘Rude Mechanicals Technology Book’.  The children did not find either of these very easy to make but were delighted to take home the finished products.

Today we have Golden Time where they have a choice of what to do for half an hour.  All but two chose to do further technology and are working away busily on their own projects.  Successful Learners!

Practise!

March 8th, 2007

The Argyll Music festival is coming around soon and the school is filled with the sound of children perfecting their songs. Over the past few weeks the sound has changed from a rather unpleasant growl to a very melodious air. Only a week and a half to go.

Valentine’s Disco

February 15th, 2007

The P4-P7 class at Glassary organised a Valentine’s disco and invited the whole school plus the p6 & P7 classes from Ashfield, Tayvallich, Kilmartin and Craignish. It was a brilliant night. The pictures show it all! Thanks to Martin Bell who was generous enough to do the disco for free.

The Canadian Connection

February 14th, 2007

In 1819, Donald and William Cameron left Kilmichael Glen  for Ontario in Canada.  Every year since 1925 the descendants of these two brothers have held a picnic in Canada.  However, recently the size and spead of this extended family has resulted in the winding up of the Cameron Picnic Society.

Last Year the school was visited my Mr Donald King of Ontario, a descendant of one of the brothers, together with his daughter Laurel and grandson.  They enjoyed their visit to the school and very generously sent the school some money from the Society.  A couple of months later, Laurel King, the daughter, very thoughtfully sent the school a large box of Canadian novels for the children.  Today a cheque arrived in school from Canada.  It is the money which was left over from winding up the  society.  Again, with great generosity,  the society has decided that Glassary Primary should have the money in memory of their ancestors.

All we have to do now is think of a fitting use for the money to enrich the school permanently.  Suggestions please.

14.25 Depart Glasgow International Airport, connect at Heathrow Airport for Quantas Airways, flight no.10.

         14.00 Arrive at Hobart Airport.

14.30 Arrive at Hotel and enjoy your holiday!  21.7.07

         4.00   Arrive at Hobart Airport.

06.15 Depart from Hobart Airport, flight 10.

         07.25 Arrive at Melbourne Airport.

9.25   Depart from Melbourne Airport. 22.7.07

Maths Task

February 7th, 2007

The task for Maths Group 1.   Your hardworking Head Teacher wants to visit his brother in
Tasmania in July.  He will stay out there for 3 weeks.  You must plan his trip using public transport only.  You need to plan the following:

·       Bus from School to the airport

·       Flights toTasmania

·       The return

·       Hotels

·       Costs

To complete the task you need to present your results to the class using a Powerpoint presentation.  You need to make sure that all buses, flights and hotels are available.  Take it to the point of putting in the Visa number – then stop!  (By the way – he’s not really going to Oz for his holiday, worst luck) To help you can use:

·        The internet – e.g www.expedia.com www.google.com www.ba.com

·        Bus timetables e.g. http://www.citylink.co.uk/

·        An Atlas

Good Luck!

Holocaust Memorial Day

First They Came for the Jews

First they came for the Jews
and I did not speak out
because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for the Communists
and I did not speak out
because I was not a Communist.
Then they came for the trade unionists
and I did not speak out
because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for me
and there was no one left
to speak out for me.
